ACCOMMODATION
Kassoumay was tailored by her original owner, whose interest was in maintaining maximal performance within a comfortable family layout. The galley is “up”, which has the distinct advantage of being at the same level as the cockpit, which remains the principal “living” area. The cockpit is separated by two large sliding doors that open up the saloon into the cockpit forming a large single level area. |
The layout was originally standard charter with four cabins accessed via the bridge deck, each with their en suite toilets. This configuration was adapted on Kassoumay to provide an office in the port Forward cabin and one forward head was removed and a small washing machine substituted. The forepeaks are very large waterproof compartments, behind crash boxes, (which in the charter version Lagoon 47s are often converted to crew berths). Access is through a large Goiot deck hatch. These can be used for storage of sails, spare lines, fenders, sheets, empty fuel containers, mooring buoys, spear guns etc... |

The Navigation station is located to starboard next to the galley and faces forward with radios, electrical distribution panel, chart table and shelf for chart storage. (I have purposely kept the autopilot separate from NMEA input, but this can readily be connected if required.)

SALON |
The saloon is centred on a large rectangular shaped aft facing sofa forward with extensive storage below. There is a moveable small square teak coffee table. A wooden board is fitted over this table and a tailored cushion is added, enabling the resting and on watch crew members to be on one level during sea crossings. (This has considerable safety implications). A Hella-Turbo fan and 220V outlet is also located between the Saloon and Chart Table. The saloon sofa was recently (New 2005) re-upholstered with Jeanneau recommended Macro Cotton treated fabric. There are also a number of new matching throw pillows. |

They can all be managed by the Sony 12V stereo with Auxiliary input capability (for Ipods and DVDs) and can play CDs, Radio, and MP3s. There is also a 12V/220 38 cm LCD TV readily wired to DVD player in locker next to mast base. Video Camera, Cable TV, and VGA input. All devices have stand-alone remotes. COCKPIT AND FOREDECK |
The cockpit is a square shaped seating area with a large hardwood table fixed on adjustable stainless steel mount. The steering and control station is on the port side.In the floor of the cockpit are two large lockers. One of these is used to store a spare rudder. The other stores 100 litres of petrol/mixture in containers, for dive compressor and outboard respectively, the large stainless gas tank, spare gas tank, swim ladder and four dive tanks. The lockers drain to the underside of the bridge deck. The cockpit has a PVC bimini and three sunshades that zip onto the aft and sides. The Bimini frame is in stainless steel. Cockpit cushions are of white mesh and closed cell foam. There is a clear PVC sheet which can be zipped along the forward edge of the Bimini to prevent spray coming over the deck into the cockpit. There are two large cockpit seat lockers and four lockers under the main track. At the base of the mast, on the foredeck, are four large deep lockers. One of these serves as the chain locker and houses the windlass, as well as having ample room for all the mooring lines and a 100m unused 17mm anchoring rode. The forward lockers drain through to the sea, and the two others are waterproof and accessed through their forward counterparts. The large area of trampoline allows water to pass through in heavy seasand reduces the tendency to slamming. |
